Fantastic effort by all to get the club ready for the 2024 season.

A vibrant organisation has busy times and times to take stock. This was very clearly in
evidence on Saturday 23rd March when so many people turned up to get our wonderful cricket club back up and running for the new season. Fueled by tea and cake, lots of jobs got ticked off The List on what was a fantastic effort by all involved.

You could be forgiven for doubting that it is Spring, but what has changed is the tempo – since the wonderful day we had (narrowly avoiding hail and rain) a number of things have continued to happen at pace. The tree on the second ground has been further cut down by Dave Peperell and Peter Yates and the path is now clear again. Laura Atkinson, Paul Lees and Nick Claus are all champing at the bit to get District Cricket practice under way.

Alex Parsons is desperately trying to get wickets prepared. Simon Gibbs is trying to keep ahead of cutting the outfields. Pippa Gibbs is impatiently waiting for a few dry hours to finish painting the outside of the club. I could go on……

I would like to thank Richard Gould (CEO, ECB) and his staff member Esther for making a real effort to come and support our club (and recreational cricket generally) by being seen and engaging with us in our efforts. It was also wonderful to have the support on the day, as always, of Beth Barrett-Wild (Director of Women's Progressional Game, ECB) and also Graham Pryke (Essex CC). Please watch this space for some coverage in the press in the lead up to the season.

Last of all a very big thank you to everyone that helped make the day a resounding success.
Please feel free to continue to do little jobs that you think need doing – you are helping to
make your club what you want it to be – a welcoming place to enjoy your sport and
relaxation in the local community.
